How to Introduce Your Students to AI

Hey teachers!

It’s been a minute - happy to get back on track here with the weekly newsletters to keep you updated with everything AI for teachers.

AI is everywhere and is not going anywhere, so instead of shying away from it, it’s integral to teach our students to be literate in artificial intelligence as it relates to their age.

A poor understanding of AI can lead to many dangers like academic dishonesty and creating horrible deepfakes of others as a form of cyberbullying.

That being said, here are some of my favourite FREE resources and lesson plans to teach students about the benefits, dangers and best practices of AI.

#1: aiEdu.org

This is my top pick. One stop shop for everything you need to introduce and teach about AI. Mainly for grades 9-12.

100% free and here are my favourite resources:

  • AI Instant Challenges (“Can you outsmart ChatGPT?”)

  • AI in 5 minutes - using familiar resources like facial recognition

  • Tons of Projects in their “Project Dashboard” - I like the “Deepfake PSA”

  • AI Toolkits for Teachers, Parents and Students

Grab and go lessons for grades 6-12.

  • Ready made lessons, resources and lesson plans

  • Examine AI bias, chatbots, intros and algorithms

  • Each takes 20 minutes or less

I love this video series! You can start wherever you see fit - from beginner to experience.

  • From LLMs to AI for students and teachers

  • Developed by Ethan and Lilach Mollick, leaders in the AI pedagogy space

And that’s it for this week!

As always, thanks for reading and I hope you found this helpful.
